The Reading Habit Tag and Readabits Tag: Kate's It!

I saw this on my friend Cindy's blog- Cindy's Love of Books, and she found it on Wish Fulfillment's youtube channel.  Not sure who the original source is, but thank you!  It's been awhile since I did a reading themed meme!

The Reading Habit Tag

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Not really, especially since I listen to so many audiobooks.  We have turned my mom's room into a sort of library/guest room, so I suppose I'll be reading more there in the future.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Both!  I have roughly a million bookmarks, but I will use anything in a pinch- usually movie ticket receipts from Cinebistro and most recently, a straw wrapper.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I've always read whenever and wherever I can sneak in some reading time, so I have no problem stopping mid-sentence.  But if I have the time, I do usually set goals- page number or chapters read.  And then I will usually end after a chapter.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

Yup.  Sometimes, it feels weird to eat a meal and NOT read.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Again, I'm used to reading whenever and wherever I can find time, so usually background noise doesn't bother me.  At home though, I usually prefer silence or very soft background music.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

ALL THE BOOKS ALL AT ONCE!!  No, seriously, I have lots of books going at once, until one in particular grabs my whole attention.  I just try to make sure the genre's are different.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Everywhere!

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

I usually read silently in my head, but I do like to read out loud if the writing is particularly good.  I feel like my dog and my cats like it (I totally do all the voices for them).

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

I am not going to lie, even though I find it annoying to myself, but yes, occasionally I do- which is the reason I mostly listen to thrillers on audiobooks- because there are two reasons I skip or read ahead- anxiety or boredom.  The anxiety read ahead is the sign of a great book, the boredom reading ahead is usually a sign I'm about to DNF if this crap doesn't get better.  But I don't do it often.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I like to keep my spines intact.  But it also depends on the shape of the book.  If it's a used book, or an arc, I tend not to be as careful.

11. Do you write in your books?

Rarely.  I've tried.  My friend, Bittner, is a very active reader, so she writes in her books like she's having a conversation with them.  I find that fascinating... but it's just not the way I read.  One, because I like to keep my books in pristine condition, and Two, I hate my handwriting.  If I had better handwriting, I'd probably be more eager to write in books.

12. Who do you tag?

You!

I am also going to do the Readabits tag, which Cindy posted, but I don't know the original source.

Readabits

1. When do you find yourself reading? Morning, afternoon, evening, whenever you get the chance or all the time?

All day, everyday, peeps! I work 2 jobs and my schedule is all over the place, so I cram it in when I can.

2. What is your best setting to read in?

I can read anywhere, but I probably get the most done when I'm listening to audiobooks in the car or at home.

3. What do you do first – Read or Watch?

I prefer to read first... but it just depends.  Sometimes I don't want to read right before I watch, because then it's too easy to focus on the differences.

4. What form do you prefer? Audiobook, E-book or physical book?

I have no real preference, although audiobooks tend to be my jam.  I read a lot of e-arcs on my phone and e-reader, but it's easier for me to find time for audiobooks and physical books.

5. Do you have a unique habit when you read?

No? Maybe?  Is standing on one foot and hop in a circle after I finish each chapter a unique habit?  I mean, I don't do that, but that would probably be a good way to fit in more cardio...

6. Do book series have to match?

I don't feel as strongly about series matching as some of my friends, *cough*Kim*cough*, but of course I prefer them to match.  I'm not sure why publishers mess with us readers that way.  You picked out the original design, asshats, just continue with it.  Change it when the paperbacks come out, but don't mess with a series while it's still coming out.  Hmm, maybe I do have strong feelings.  It doesn't stop me from buying the book, though.
